If your old fuse board needs upgrading, your electrics are regularly tripping or you are planning major electrical work, Keetons Electrical Contractors can assess your installation and install a modern consumer unit that suits the property and current requirements.
Sheffield consumer-unit specialists
Your consumer unit—often called a fuse board—protects every electrical circuit in the property. Keetons Electrical Contractors upgrades consumer units for homeowners, landlords and businesses across Sheffield, with the existing installation checked before any replacement is recommended.
We explain the options in plain English, design the board around the circuits already present and complete the installation with careful testing, clear labelling and the appropriate certification.
Clear guide pricing
These guide prices cover a straightforward consumer-unit replacement in its existing location and include VAT. Your final written quotation follows an assessment of the installation, circuit count and work required.

Final cost: circuit count, access and the condition of the existing installation can affect the quotation. Fault repairs, earthing or bonding upgrades, moving the board, longer tails and specialist protection are quoted separately. For more than 14 circuits, contact us for a survey and quotation.
An older fuse board is not automatically unsafe and age alone is not a reason to replace it. We inspect the board, earthing, bonding and existing circuits first, then recommend only the work the installation actually needs.
Rewireable fuses, limited RCD protection or protective devices that no longer suit the installation.
Circuits trip regularly, will not reset or show signs of a fault that needs proper investigation.
An extension, kitchen, EV charger or other new circuit requires an assessment of the existing board.
An inspection has identified defects, limited protection or remedial work around the consumer unit.
Visible damage, burning, loose components or heat must be assessed promptly by an electrician.
The board is overcrowded, difficult to isolate, poorly labelled or unsuitable for the circuits connected.
Individual RCBO protection
A fault on one circuit can be isolated without unnecessarily affecting every circuit in the property.
Surge protection
An SPD can help protect equipment from transient overvoltages where it forms part of the design.
Clear circuit identification
Neat labelling makes isolation, testing and future maintenance straightforward.
A board designed for the property
We size and arrange the consumer unit around the installation and any planned additions.
No blind box swaps: every installation is different. We assess the existing wiring and protection first and select the consumer unit and matching protective devices to suit the installation.

A new consumer unit can be the right solution, but it is not automatically the answer to every electrical issue. If the fixed wiring is aged, damaged or does not test satisfactorily, remedial work or a partial or full rewire may be the safer route.
For independent guidance, read the NICEIC guide to consumer units and fuse boxes.
It depends on the number of circuits, the condition of the installation and whether remedial work is required. We explain the expected scope before booking the work.
Yes. The supply normally needs to be isolated while the consumer unit is replaced and the installation is tested. We discuss this with you in advance.
No. An older board is not replaced on age alone. We assess its condition, the protective devices and the wider installation before recommending an upgrade.
Not necessarily. An EICR identifies the condition of the installation and records any observations. The findings help determine whether an upgrade or other remedial work is appropriate.
Our guide prices are around £840 including VAT for up to 6 circuits, £1,020 for 7–10 circuits and £1,200 for 11–14 circuits. See the guide prices and included work above. The final quotation follows an installation assessment, with any remedial work or extras quoted separately.
